#6: Karl Ivester Is More Than Just The "Shutter Guy" In Greater Boston & Cape Cod

In our interview, Karl described himself as not being a “puck chaser” in any aspect of life - meaning that he likes to lead trends VS follow them or get involved with them after it’s too late.

As for Karl’s proven effective strategies and methods for being friendly, firm, resourceful and reliable in life and business, well, they should be followed and implemented by every on-the-move businessperson.

  • Karl was the youngest of 4 boys and although his parents had one idea for him, he didn’t follow the family’s marching orders when it was all said and done. Karl mentioned “I did what I was supposed to do, but knew I could provide more for others and for his own life elsewhere!”
  • At the age of 30, an accident changed his life’s path which led him to ‘find his stride’ in the trades and in various trades groups. He also wasn’t shy in saying “kids ARE NOT following a unique career path these days” - which will negatively impact us down the road. #TransformVSConfirm
  • As for how the business landscape has changed over the years, New England Shutter Mills only buys USA sourced products and materials + Karl DOES NOT see limits in the talent pool. “I’ve had employees for many years and I treat them well. It’s the people who cannot get help these days are sucking the life out of people - which is why they get junk!”
  • If you take care of your people, pay your suppliers, and call your customers, they’ll go nowhere else :) ABIDs (Architects, Builders and Interior Designers) are his best customers, and they’ve serviced 3K customers in the past 25 years.
  • Where most companies doing what his company does give a 5 year warranty, NESM gives a 25 year warranty, and loves knowing that when a “situation arises” that needs an immediate solution, most companies send a National Rep… NESM sends the owner to make that decision!
  • Karl supports many charitable endeavors, but one of his favorites happened back in 2018 when he was instrumental with putting on a tradeshow for hundreds of trade-school students to help them transition out of high school and into the world with an ideal career of choice.
